This Comic Is Good - Amazing Joy Buzzards Vol. 2 #4
Let me put it this way, which will place things in very simple terms...this comic featured two guest artists, who drew a story each. The two artists? Dave Crosland and Jim Mahfood. In case a flying saucer with Pee-Wee Herman's voice just dropped you off from 1979, leaving your little brother much older than you now, then I will explain what having Crosland and Mahfood on your book means. It means some crazy ass stories, which occurs in this fun comic.
The framing sequence for the two tales is handled by regular artist, Dan Hipp, because you can't have an issue of Amazing Joy Buzzards without at least SOME Hippy goodness!
The Crosland story is a simple one - Martians are invading Earth to take our kittens, and the Buzzards have to fly to Mars to thwart them and save our kittens. Crosland is a sight to see, as the manic energy he brings to every panel is quite impressive. Perhaps sometimes it seems almost TOO crazy, but he never ventures into indecipherablity, which is nice.
Meanwhile, Mark Smith presents him with a crazy ass plot, so to best serve Crosland's talents. I especially love Crosland's little tiny asides (like pointing out a certain fight move as deriving from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), or the sound of Stevo's laser blasts! Great stuff (in addition, Crosland drew one of the best Steveo word balloon I have seen yet...detailed without having to explain it at all, which is great).
Mahfood follows the animal theme in his story, which is a team-up of Stevo and Smoke Dog, who, in this story, is a little tiny dog DJ who is in band with Stevo (Stevo's side-project). The plot is also simple, Smoke Dog loses his records, so has to quickly replace them for the night's show, and one of the records he buys contains a demon that is released when the record is scratched.
What a cool idea THAT is, eh?
Mahfood has the same energy Crosland has, but is a bit more experienced at reining it in, as no panel is ever anything but exactly what is needed to get the story across.
This story is the end of Volume Two of Joy Buzzards, but Volume Three looks like it will be quite cool as well. You folks should be reading Joy Buzzards, it is like Joy Divison, only not the current bogus "New Order just calling themselves Joy Division," because Amazing Joy Buzzards is, you know, actually GOOD.

God I hate Joy Division.
Sorry, was this post about comics?
"Flight of the Navigator" reference. Nice.
(I always wished that an alien spaceship would take my brother into the future, so he'd be twelve and I'd be seventeen. Damn you, real life.)
