Flaming Carrot Comics #1 - Really Now..Political Correctness?
Today's "You Decide" is Flaming Carrot Comics #1 by Image Comics (Desperado Publishing).
Written and drawn by Bob Burden, this is the 33rd issue of Flaming Carrot to be published.
There hasn't been a new Flaming Carrot story out in awhile, and Burden is a bit stuck in the past, I think, as this issue, he has Flaming Carrot take on "Political Correctness."
It just seems like such an OLD joke.
That being said, even with such an old joke, Burden is such a funny writer that he makes the issue work.
If you are a fan of the Goon, you should enjoy Flaming Carrot, as it has that same sense of total planned chaos (I love that term now...planned chaos).
Like a singing zombie who sings songs that match whatever is going on at the time, or a baloney guy that Flaming Carrot is using because they are making an action figure of him with it and they need him to actually use it in battle.
Or FC using a bunch of stink bombs under a garbage can lid to propel himself into the air.
Just crazy random ideas, but written with a focused edge by Burden, as he knows where everything is headed by story's end.
Burden's art is quite sketchy at times (and there are some panels that he clearly put more effort into than others...it is actually remarkable how obvious it is at times...note that the ladies often get the MOST effort), but gets the job done.
The plot of the issue is that Flaming Carrot has to fight crime more "politically correct" after he kills a bad guy, and a reporter is trying to get close to him to do a sensational expose on him for the news.
It is a wacky fun story, with plenty of jokes for your money.
So even though a lot of Burden's jokes seem to have been written about 15 years ago, and quite often his "insightful" jokes are not really insightful at all, there is still enough humor to find the comic enjoyable.
Recommended.
