Will Bruce Jones Be Good At DC? - The Time Is Soon Coming To Find Out

I used to really enjoy Bruce Jones stories.

His House of Mystery work, his Conan work, his Batman work, Creepy, Eerie (and any other synonym out there...hehe)...I dug it all.

Then he took over the Incredible Hulk, and I was impressed at first, but slowly it seemed like he was writing a 6-issue storyline stretched to over thirty issues long, so I became less and less impressed as the series went on (it was almost like he was "trying to avoid the big event," but using that as an excuse to just not finish the story at all!!).

In any event, a few months back, Jones signed an exclusive contract with DC Comics in July of 2004, and proceeded to write....nothing.

Okay, that's not fair, he wrote a short story in a Wildstorm anthology.

But that was it.

Months and months passed, and nothing.

Now we finally see what he is up to - THREE new series for DC!

Vigilante with Ben Oliver (which was announced in July 2004)

Warlord with Bart Sears

Deadman with John Watkiss

Off the top of my head, really, only the Deadman project sounds like my cuppa, but at least we will finally see what Bruce Jones has been up to....here's hoping that it will be good!

Vertigo Deadman would be great! Unfortunately Jones trashed the concept and reinvented it as a retread of his Hulk run.

Oops!

But Deadman will rot and fall to pieces when he gets angry instead of big and green.

Hopefully, this time the editor will go, "Uh, lemme ask you something, Bruce: If the guy is stuck in that silo, yet he can control all those people FROM the silo, why doesn't he get them to dig him out of the silo?"

In Philly this weekend, Jones explained that, while he wasn’t interested in competing with Neal Adams’ legendary version of the character, there would be "more similarities than it would appear at first blush." He also made an interesting comment about his run on the Hulk, how he had a lot of trouble connecting to the monster and felt more comfortable dealing with Banner. Paralled that on Sunday by stressing how important he felt Bruce Wayne was to Batman.

Personally, from his two panel appearances I saw, I'm curious about all of his projects. Seemed like a cool, smart guy.

I did like Jones Hulk. An awful lot, actually.

Other than that, I MAY have read one issue where he did Ka-Zar, but maybe not.

But Deadman's a big 'ol personal fave. So I'll buy his take on the Dead Guy. And I'LL enjoy it. (Probably.)
