Just For The Record...

Morrison on Batman and Dini on Detective Comics is very good news.

  1. Morrison SUX. Ooh, look at me! Batman will have a sci-fi closet! He'll fight haunted grass!* Robin will be prominently featured! He'll use words like "yoctosphere"! He'll solve crimes by figuring out the number of two-toed sloths that can actually fit inside a Cooper Mini! He'll fight villains with names like "The Corporate Whore" and "Man Of The House" and "Where Are The Chips, Copper?"! What the crap kind of crap are we in for?

*He may have already done this.

  2. James Robinson. Grant Morrison. Paul Dini. They give me hope for the future of the character... and comics in general.

  3. Oh boy do I want to see Batman fight Haunted Grass - give Greg a shot if Grant or Paul won't do it.

  4. Peter Milligan had Batman fight haunted grass way back when in "The Hungry Grass," which is a classic issue. Aparo art.

  5. That Milligan story is very good, but I like what Dalek is saying - there should actually BE a villain called Haunted Grass!

    Etc etc etc.

LOL... was eating an apple when i read Greg's post, and I nearly choked on it. Eating and hysterical laughter do not go together.

Look on the bright side. Morrison will probably be throwing in some weird-@$$ $#!+ in his stories, but I doubt he'll be asking Paul Dini to draw close-up shots of Vicky Vale's rear end.

  7. Which is doubly good, because Paul Dini is a writer, not an artist.

Oh shit. I am sooooo buying Batman again if it is going to be like this! Batman became such a bore after 199something...

But what is up with him becoming so busy as of late, didn't he "retire" in 2000?

  9. Watching "Batman Begins" made me realize why Morrison's take on Batman doesn't interest me much, these days. Batman is just so much more interesting when he's portrayed as having actual...well...problems in his life, instead of minor setbacks that are eradicated with absolutely no tension at all.

    Yeah, yeah. I know.

I also though Crisis Times Five and Here Comes Tomorrow were two of the worst League and X stories -ever- written. Blasphemy. :P

  10. But Didio will be overseeing it, so I worry. He may keep sending back the scripts until they come back as sucky and depressing as he likes them.

  11. I dunno. Nobody likes Morrison more than I do except for everybody else on this blog..

But didn't Arkham Asylum kinda blow?

    It's been a while.

And his Batman JLA was a little too sci-fi closet and not enough smartest-dude in the room.

(Making him the fifth worst characterization in the book, behind New School Aquaman, the complete genericification of the two Kirby characters, and the complete-and-total failure to get the bloody point of Plastic Man.)

Actually, I changed my mind. Morrison sux.

  12. Yeah, Morrison did totally miss the point of PlaSTIC Man and turned him into a wacky Jim Carrey (instead of the straight man he was supposed to be, Woozy was the actual comic relief under Jack Cole). But that's mostly due to a Wachowski Bros. Plastic Man script that was floating around and was rumored to have Jim Carrey attached. PLas was reinvented in the comics to match Jim Carrey's wackiness.

Problem was even after the Jim Carrey thing fell through, the characterization stuck. Notice in the final part of JLA Rock of Ages that Plas is even drawn to look like Ace Ventura!

    Wow.

I TOTALLY see that. The JLA Plastic Man felt like Jim Carey. That's... really interesting, in a disgusting sort of way.

  14. I'd rather see Batman fight haunted grass and have a sci-fi closet than get taken to task by Katie Holmes any day.

  15. "Don't you think he's stretching himself a bit thin?"

Eh. I'll worry when it actually happens. As long as the books are good, the more the better.

  17. Great news I would have to say. Both of them will bring good stuff to the lines and hope they managed to keep up with the expectations.

  18. I know Morrison has his fair amount of bad reputation with him, but along side that, he is able to make good stories. If he understands what the Batman means he wont mess it.
