This Artist Is Good - Aaron Renier
His debut graphic novel, Spiral Bound, was released last week.
He just had a neat interview with Tim Leong at Comic Foundry.
Jen Contino at Comicon also did a piece on him.
Yes, Aaron Renier is having the best week ever!
Oh wait...that is someone else's shtick.
Sorry about that.
In any event, Spiral Bound is a good example of Renier's talents. He is a fine artist.
Here is the cover of Spiral Bound.
Here, too, is a sample from inside the book.
I like the way that Renier can follow in Richard Scarry's footsteps, just with a nice updeated feel to his art to make it uniquely his own.
Here is a nice, moody poster he did for last year's MOCCA...
He can do different styles, though, as seen here in this bit, which Chad quite rightly refers to as very Clowes-esque...
But basically, Renier hits the kid/cartoon niche, and hits it well...
The last two pieces are from a nice Renier gallery here.
In addition, you can visit his site here, where he has lots of drawings for you to look at!
Finally, if any of you are from Portland, you might have noticed some of Renier's illustrations in the Portland Mercury.

That Eliot Johnson guy thinks he's pretty good, too...

Seriously, this was one of the best books I've read all year. It is incredibly fun. Everyone should buy it. Now.
