So why a blog?

God help me, I've been posting online about comic books for some nine years. I've been a part of some message boards, visited others, and lurked at others still. Each message board has its own set of politics. There's nothing wrong with that, it's natural. But, I've noticed, when critiquing a comic book, these politics come heavily into play. A review that gets loud, "Yeah, exactly!"'s at one site can get you a "YOU ARE AN AWFUL JERK," at another.

I think I speak for all of us here at this blog when I say that we're pretty tired of tailoring our critiques for specific audiences. No more, "CBR loves mindless superhero romps," or "Watch what you say about Ellis' books at Millarworld," or "Don't mentions superheroes at TCJ, even if Morrison is involved." We're going to be posting our thoughts on comics: what makes them good, what makes them bad. In addition, we're going to be discussing these issues, as well. The five of us may all have high standards for comics, but the standards often lead is in different ways. But, since we're pals and we respect each other, we can feel free to closely examine each other's opinions and get deeper into them. So can you, the blog reader. We're hoping, above all else, that this might set up a dialogue about the quality of comics; specifically, about how to recognize it, and how to raise it.

This first post of mine not withstanding, we also hope to do all this without taking ourselves too seriously. So, er, poop fart zing zing. There. Keep reading, start posting, and enjoy.
